Bill Zeedyk, Van Clothier, and Craig Sponholtz: Induced Meandering/Erosion Control Restoration Assessment and Design Workshop: October 24 – November 2, 2011 – south of Tucson AZ

October 24, 2011 - November 2, 2011

Sky Island Alliance is accepting applications for the seven-day Induced Meandering/Erosion Control Restoration Assessment and Design Workshop led by Bill Zeedyk of Zeedyk Ecological Consulting, Albuquerque, NM; Van Clothier of Stream Dynamics, Silver City, NM; and Craig Sponholtz of Dryland Solutions, Santa Fe, NM. The workshop is broken into 2 sessions with a break from October 28-30, and will be held on Las Ciénegas National Conservation Area just south of Tucson.
This workshop is an intensive introduction to natural creek and arroyo function, techniques of field surveys, the analysis of incised channels, reading the landscape, the design of induced meandering and erosion control structures, and project design and layout principles. The curriculum will include some classroom sessions but will focus extensively on field experience.
All participants will be housed on site with a full camp set-up including canvas 4-10 person tents, cots (bring your own bedding), showers and bathrooms, and a mess tent/area where all meals and box lunches for the field will be provided. It is imperative that all participants stay on site for the duration of the workshop as your full attention and participation is required for the duration of all 7 days.
This training is open to professionals and students from a wide variety of backgrounds that possess basic knowledge of natural resource management and related concepts. Preference in the application process will be given to those with ability to implement the training on the ground.
More information on the course content and outline will be sent to interested parties. All materials will be provided including Bill and Van’s new book: Let the Water Do the Work.
