Watershed Management Group: Public Water-Harvesting Lectures – Tucson AZ

April 29, 2011 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

WMG is offering five of our in-depth lectures from our Water Harvesting Certification course to the public.  Would you like to learn how to design high-quality, functional water harvesting systems for a variety of applications?  Have you done a few water harvesting projects, but would like to learn more?  Would you like to learn about cutting-edge green practices that incorporate integrated design and are also simple and affordable?  If you answered yes to any of these questions, these lectures are for you!

  • Friday 4/29: Water Harvesting Earthworks, 10:00am-noon, with Catlow Shipek
    • Learn design and application of basins, berms, swales, terraces, and french drains.  This lecture covers lot-scale to watershed scale practices with information on soils, landscape materials, and integration with plants.
  • Sunday 5/1: Cisterns, 1:30-3:30p, with Catlow Shipek
    • Comprehensive overview of cistern systems from guttering, filtration, storage, and distribution, including best management practices and cistern types for different applications.
  • Monday 5/2: Landscape Design for Water Harvesting, 1:30-3:30pm, with James DeRoussel
    • Learn from a landscape architect the basic landscape design principles and how to apply and integrate these principles to make water harvesting systems both aesthetic and functional.
  • Wednesday 5/4: Greywater Systems, 12:30-2:30pm, with Brad Lancaster
    • Greywater systems harvest water from laundry machines, bathroom sink and showers, and ac condensate.  Learn how to reuse greywater in your yard, with a focus on gravity-fed systems, plumbing considerations, and appropriate uses.
